County historic site, the former "Erlun Police Station," has been transformed into a Erlun Story House

The former "Erlun Police Station," an important cultural asset to Erlun Township, is being renovated and transformed into an "Erlun Story House." Every weekend from July 27 to September 14, a series of trail activities will be held at this site by the Cultural Affairs Bureau. The activities includes monument tour,illustrated story workshop,cultural and creative seminars and other activities will all be free of admission. We welcome anyone from all ages to participate in these events.

On the 17th of June, the "Erlun Story House" invited children from Lunbei and Erlun Townships to listen to the "Paper Theater People" story. To step into the past and see how our ancestors develop in this region, the children will also be guided to tour around the monument by Yang Xian-Pei, the Deputy Director of the Bureau.

The Deputy Director Yang said that the former Erlun Police Station was established in 1899 during the Japanese occupation and it was the first police station in Yunlin County. After efforts from the county government and many others, "Erlun Story House" will be used as a media to spread local stories and explore local characteristic. Deputy Director Yang stressed that the buildings is the only monument in Yunlin County that locates in a Hakka community. In order to preserve this cultural asset, the county government had assigned this site as one of the county monuments in year 2005. After completion of surveying the site, the Ministry of Culture injects 8.45 million NT dollars to repair and renovate the building and its surrounding landscape. In the future, the county government will actively raise funds to support this monument and make it a social resource for promoting Erlun Township. The county government is actively revitalize Hakka community by recognizing the important Hakka monuments. On July 27 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Story House will held an event to give visitors a tour around the monument. In addition, four sections of picture book creation lessons will be held on August 3rd, 17th, and 13th from 9 a.m. to noon, and on September 14th from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. During these four sections, children and parents will be able to learn together from experienced teachers on how to create their own picture books.

Finally on September 7th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Story House will invite He Pei-Jun, a renowned cultural and creative practitioner to give a seminar on how to revitalize historic spaces and share some experience in this kind of renovation.
