For protecting the interests of others refusing to breathe second-hand smoke, Yunlin County Government built many outdoor smoke-free areas cooperating with public and private sector and held 『Public Non-smoking Area Press Conference』on Shiliu railway station in the morning of 2nd of September.
The secretary Huang, Yu Shuang, expressed that there were 39 outdoor-smoke-free places including sidewalks around 27 schools, 10 culture buildings, Yunlin-Chiayi Southern Coast National Park Kou Hu Visitor Center and Jiu Jiu Garden Culture and Creativity District. There are newly 9 smoke-free places including Shih Liu railway station and other 8 bus stops in Douliu County starting from 1/1/106.
The Secretary Huang, Yu Shuang, the Secretary of Public Health Bureau Wu, Jhao Jyun and the Director of Department of Public Works Peng, Zih Cheng and other guests announced new 9 smoke-free places and called upon people to comply with the norm of outdoor-smoke-free places.
“For creating fresh environment, the concept of “Fresh Yunlin” from Environmental Protection Bureau and non-smoking area promoting by Public Health Bureau are to make air more fresh. There are new 9 non-smoking area announced today and other 39 areas, total by 48 non-smoking area in Yunlin, and there will be more non-smoking area.” said the secretary of Public Health Bureau Wu, Jhao Jyun.
The days between the date of releasing announcement and 1/1/106 is the persuasion period. People smoke in the non-smoking area will be fined NTD2,000 to NTD10,000 according to Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act.
In order to create smoke-free environment when waiting for the train, according to the regulation in the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act,Public Health Bureau of Yunlin County Government newly adds Shiliu station(It is registered as a historical building at Yunlin County in 2006) and other 9 bus stations at Douliu County. It has been set up non-smoking signs and drawn non-smoking lines at entrance and suitable spots in non-smoking areas, and Public Health Bureau appeals that all the residence should comply with regulations of outdoor non-smoking areas, respect the rights and interests of others refusing to breathe second-hand smoke and support to push forward outdoor non-smoking places. In addition, the Health Department also integrate resources of medical treatment and community, providing smoking cessation classes, exclusive phone line (0800-636363), consulting services of smoking cessation and many other multiple ways to cut out. Smoking residences are welcome to use these channels more.
