Yunlin County Civil Affairs Office have been implementing steps in order to facilitate immigration services to assist new immigrants coming to Yunlin. These services include an Immigrants Information Service Desk, Multi-lingual Information Service Website, Immigration Family Support Center, as well as establishing Immigration Learning Centers across the mountain line and coastal line. From August 16th, the Civil Affairs Department will merge Household Registration and the new immigration section to form one section, Household Registrations Section and Immigration Service Center.
According to Magistrate Li Jinyong, the number of immigrants in Yunlin County has exceeded 15,000, mainly from mainland China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand and the Philippines. These immigrants all come from different countries, with different languages, culture and lifestyle. The County Government’s main focus is to create a safe environment for new immigrants, to assist the immigrants to settle into a multi-lingual and multicultural society.
Civil Affairs Director Cheng Yuanhong pointed out that the County Government has established a project called “Yunlin County Immigration Support Project”, which involves the collaboration of various departments such as Civil Affairs, Social Welfare, Education, Culture News and Information, Labor, Planning, Police, and the Bureau of Health. Additional to the Immigration Service Station, the aim is to establish an Immigration Service Network online. In the future, these networks can expand and establish links with other immigration networks throughout Taiwan.
