2012 Yunlin County Grandparents Day press conference and carnival was hold today (Jun. 25) on the people’s space of Building No.1 of Yunlin County Hall. The conference and carnival was host by Ms. Sun MianHuang, Deputy Director-General of Education Department. Performances include seniors from Taisi Senior Center, and students from Taisi Elementary School elegant dance performance, which earned applause from the audience.
Ms. Sun, Deputy Director-General of Education Department, said the performance by those elders from Taisi Senior Center was very impressive, which demonstrate the efforts of their healthy diet and regular exercise. She wishes that the elders can preserve healthy interest.
Direct-General Sun pointed out, the Ministry of Education announce the 4th Sunday of August as “Grandparents Day” to raise the public attention to family bonding between the generations, that the younger generation could develop closer relationships with older generations, and share their life experiences and wisdom to the young. In addition, a survey suggested, reportedly nearly two-thirds of the children had a hard time remembering the name of their grandparents. In fact, more than 60% of children don’t know their grandparents birthday, and 17% children had never met their grandparents, even they still live.
For this reason, Yunlin County exclusively issued “Grandparents Day postcards,” which encourage children write a letter to their grandparents. Moreover, children can not only know the name and address of their grandparents, but also express their appreciation and blessing to their grandparents. For grandparents, they will be surprise and appreciated when they receive postcard from their grandchildren! The interaction and understanding between the grandparents and grandchildren will improve, and relationships bond closer.
Education Department stated that, to advertise “Grandparents Day”, County Family Education Center plan to hold a carnival party on the afternoon of September 2nd at Gukeng Green Tunnel. Whoever holds a postmark of “Grandparents Day postcards” could exchange for a beautiful gift. Anyone who wants to write a postcard to their grandparents could come to County Family Education Center and ask for a free postcard. The postcard is limited, so come get it before they’re gone.
