Singapore/Malaysia Representatives visits Yunlin to strengthen the relationship between Taiwan and South East Asia.

In order to promote the new South East Asia (SEA) Interrelation Policy set by Central, Magistrate Li Jinyong will lead the county government representatives to Singapore and Malaysia for an interrelation exchange visit from May 7th to May 12th. Prior to the visit, the Deputy Representative of the Singapore Trade Office in Taipei, Qiu Junyu, and a Malaysian politician (East Asia special Ambassador), Zhang Qingxin, made a special visit to Yunlin on May 2nd to consolidate the international friendship between Singapore-Taiwan and Malaysia-Taiwan.

Magistrate Li met with Qiu Junyu, the Deputy Representative of the Singapore Trade Office in Taipei, and exchanged views on the development of Taiwan and Singapore in terms of the new energy policy, petrochemical industry, urban construction and preservation of monuments. Magistrate Li said the county government team will visit Singapore’s famous petrochemical area – Jurong Island, in hope to learn from Singapore’s experience in how to develop the industry and at the same time, improve Taiwan’s environmental protection methods and most importantly, people’s health.

Yunlin’s agriculture left a deep impression on the Malaysian Special Ambassador, Zhang Qingxin, when he visited last September. Today (May 2nd), he led the Malaysian Sarawak Youth Agriculture Mission of 55 people to visit Yunlin. This exchange was for the development of the livestock and poultry industry as well as the fisheries. Zhang Qingxin expressed his interest to the county magistrate about the county’s Agriculture Universities, classes on Organic products, and agriculture automation. He hopes there will be more opportunities in the future to visit again.

Magistrate Li points out that, since the cooperation exchange with the Malaysian Production and Trade group last August, the upcoming trip to Singapore and Malaysia is another opportunity to strengthen our relationship with our partners down south. The purpose of this visit is to expand the field of cooperation and exchanges. The county government team is expected to visit Singapore and Malaysia’s official institutions and related industries. These exchanges aim to nurture the new SEA Interrelation Policy with continuous developments, diversification, equal motivation, integration of resources and abilities from officials, private enterprises and groups, open international policy exchanges and industrial cooperation opportunities to create a new mutually beneficial win-win cooperation model.

County government said that the Taiwan Government promotes the SEA Policy, with Malaysia being one of the important economies in SEA. Also in Malaysia, there are many people of Chinese ethnicities, with Taiwan being a first choice for students in Malaysia looking to study abroad. Each year, the 3 Science and Technology universities in Yunlin attracts hundreds of foreign students from Malaysia to enroll and study. In accordance with the government promoting the new SEA education plan, Magistrate Li, along with representatives from the 3 Science and Technology universities in Yunlin County, went to SEA to advertise the universities last August. This not only improved the county’s visibility, but also affected the school enrollment positively.

Yunlin County hopes to start with the exchange of people with talents and academic studies that gradually extend to production and management exchanges and cooperation, thus promoting industrial development and cooperation between the two countries. The visit by the Deputy Representative of the Singapore Trade Office in Taipei and the Malaysian Ambassador not only represented a positive support in the county’s international diplomacy, but also gives the county more motivation to push for the new SEA policy to take effect.
