The 2026 Douliu Lantern Festival lit up brilliantly on the evening of the 10th at the Pongsu Forest Park. The venue glowed with dazzling lights, lively music, and large crowds. County Magistrate Chang Li‑Shan attended the lighting ceremony and noted that this year’s festival adopts the theme “Wings of Radiant Light,” using innovative lantern installations and light‑shadow performances to showcase Yunlin’s urban aesthetics and cultural creativity. She sincerely invites people from across the nation to visit Yunlin and experience its vibrant New Year atmosphere.
The lighting ceremony was co‑hosted by Magistrate Chang Li‑Shan, Legislator Chang Chia‑Chun, Deputy Magistrates Hsieh Shu‑Ya and Chen Pi‑Chun, Douliu Mayor Lin Sheng‑Chue, Council Speaker Hu Ke‑Chin, Councilor Chen Fang‑Ying, and several Douliu representatives and village chiefs. In addition to distributing limited Year‑of‑the‑Horse lanterns, the event also featured performances by “Little Boys Band” and other artists, filling the night with festive energy.
Magistrate Chang emphasized that the lantern festival is not only a seasonal celebration but also an important platform for city promotion, demonstrating the vitality and creativity of Douliu and Yunlin as a whole. She expressed special gratitude to Douliu Mayor Lin Sheng‑Chue and the city office team for their dedication and meticulous planning, which made the event both lively and impressive, further showcasing the city’s charm.
Chang further noted that the county government continues to promote balanced development among all 20 townships and cities. By integrating local characteristics, infrastructure, and major events, each area is given unique seasonal highlights and activities. She welcomed Yunlin natives working outside the county and visitors from all regions to bring their families to Yunlin for spring outings and travel, experiencing the warmth and festive spirit of the Lunar New Year.
Douliu Mayor Lin Sheng‑Chue stated that each year before the Lunar New Year, lanterns are hung across Douliu’s Taiping Old Street and surrounding roads, forming an iconic New Year landscape. This year, Taiping Old Street features over 18,000 lanterns, while a 70‑meter LED light mural decorates a major roundabout. Combined with the main lantern display at Pongsu Forest Park, the city and park echo each other, bathing the entire city in festive charm.
Legislator Chang Chia‑Chun said that from last year’s New Year’s Eve celebration to this year’s Douliu Lantern Festival, Yunlin’s growing brilliance and progress are evident. Each lantern zone features unique designs that incorporate local culture, with a level of creativity rivaling that of Taiwan’s major metropolitan areas. She encouraged everyone to visit Douliu and enjoy the lanterns, adding her New Year blessings: “In the Year of the Horse—may happiness, success, and prosperity come to you immediately.”
The Douliu City Office announced that the 2026 Douliu Lantern Festival runs from today through March 31. The main lantern features a pure‑white unicorn symbolizing hope and blessings, soaring through the night sky with clouds, colorful wings, and layered light effects. The park also includes several themed lantern zones incorporating Douliu’s local agricultural products, playful designs, and artistic elements. Through the creative integration of lighting, structures, and the surrounding environment, the festival presents a uniquely captivating visual experience.
