Summer work-study, labor rights and interests are no different from those of ordinary workers!

Summer vacation is coming, and many students would choose to experience and understand workplace life through part-time jobs, and then accumulate personal work experience and abilities, but often due to lack of social experience, their rights and interests are damaged.

Director Zhang Shizhong of the Department of Labor and Youth Affairs Development of Yunlin County Government said that although summer work-study is a short-term job, it is still protected by the Labor Standards Act. Therefore, when employers hire part-time students, the salary agreed with the part-time students shall not be lower than the statutory minimum wage. The current minimum wage is NT$28,590 per month, and the hourly wage is NT$190 per hour. In addition, the extended working hours of part-time students together with the normal working hours shall not exceed 12 hours per day, and the total extended working hours shall not exceed 46 hours per month. In addition, there should be 2 days of rest every 7 days, one day is a regular holiday, and one day is a rest day.
