The exhibition “Admiring the Vase – Blending Tradition and Modernity in Chinese Floral Art” officially opened today (December 6) at the Exhibition Hall of the Yunlin County Government Department of Culture and Tourism. The showcase integrates floral art, literature, and aesthetics, attracting numerous art enthusiasts. Magistrate Chang Li-Shan, Deputy Magistrate Hsieh Shu-Ya, Legislator Chang Chia-Chun, Chief Consultant Chang Ching-Liang, Director Chen Pi-Chun of the Department of Culture and Tourism, Secretary-General Chang Yao-Wen of the Industrial Development Council, and many representatives from the arts and cultural sectors attended the elegant and warm opening ceremony.
Magistrate Chang expressed her delight in participating in this floral art exhibition, noting that the works reflect the creators’ ingenuity and craftsmanship. Curator Liao Dun-Ju chose the theme “Admiring the Vase”, highlighting the beauty of harmony between flowers and vessels. Each piece demonstrates the artist’s skillful use of floral materials and spatial design, offering visual pleasure while echoing the festive atmosphere of the approaching New Year—bringing joy and a sense of renewal.
She extended special thanks to Liao Dun-Ju for leading Yunlin’s talented floral artists in beautifying daily life and brightening spaces, making aesthetics accessible to everyone. The exhibition runs until December 14 at the Department’s gallery, and Magistrate Chang warmly invites the public to visit and experience the charm of floral art together.
Director Chen Pi-Chun emphasized that since the founding of the Yunlin Chinese Floral Art Association in March this year, its first large-scale exhibition being held at the county’s cultural venue carries special significance. Under the leadership of Chairperson Liao Dun-Ju, the exhibition draws inspiration from classic vase arrangements depicted in historical illustrations, blending literature and Eastern aesthetics to present the spirit of floral art across time. This event features guidance from 22 floral art professors and participation by 45 floral art teachers, with works displayed in two phases to accommodate seasonal blooms. The styles are diverse and poetic. Chen noted that this is not merely an exhibition but a symbol of art entering everyday life, and expressed hope that such exhibitions will continue annually, allowing art to flourish in Yunlin.
Legislator Chang Chia-Chun remarked that she was honored to attend the opening, which combined floral art, dance, and music to create a rich, multi-layered artistic experience. The event attracted many art lovers and showcased Yunlin’s cultural achievements. She looks forward to continued collaboration with the county government to promote cultural and artistic development in Yunlin.
Chairperson Liao Dun-Ju explained that the exhibition theme “Admiring the Vase” extends into three sub-themes: “Ancient Appreciation,” “Poetic Appreciation,” and “Vessel Appreciation.” Each work carries profound cultural meaning. Visitors are warmly invited to enjoy the exhibition, with professional guides available to provide deeper insights into the works. To bring floral art closer to daily life, the Association will host a New Year Floral Arrangement Workshop on December 13. Interested participants can register on-site at the first floor of the Department of Culture and Tourism.
