Dongshi Township and Taixi together were called Haikou Zhuang during Japanese occupation. The sea wind is strong in winter. Affected by the cold current every year, farmers would grow cold zone cabbages instead of tropical crops. Difficulty growing vegetables in strong wind makes animal husbandry popular. Dongshi has the largest number of goose population with goose delicacies as special agricultural products. The County Government holds Dongshi Goose Cultural Festival to improve Dongshi agricultural products’ competitiveness and create business opportunities for agriculture.
