A 70 years old rice mill at Tuku township in Yunlin County has been transformed into a "Le Rei" food workshop. It has been rolling out new rice products about three years ago. This year they are coming out with a new kind of ice cream that is made out of rice. With finest ingredients, all ice cream flavors are made from local produces such as taro, sweet potatoes, pumpkin and many others. It has been praised by many who have it before, and now it has became one of the local featured products.

Le Rei Workshop has been chosen as one of the highlights of the 2013 Agricultural Expo scheduled to open at the end of this year. On July 20, the Le Rei Workshop tour center is officially opened, and it is also introducing a new product, the "rice" ice cream. This ice cream features many flavors from taro, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, and etc. The third-generation owners Liao Xiang Lin says she is trying to make this ice cream the feature product of Yunlin.

Liao also points out that Le Rei Workshop is a 70 years old factory originally for rice milling and now a workshop specializes in baking rice and produces rice relative products. In order for this traditional factory to be sustainable in this modern world transformation is necessary. Fortunately as Liao states, we are located in Yunlin, the capital of agriculture, so getting our main ingredient and many produces that we make flavors from are unlimited and versatile. With three years continuous research and development, Le Rei Workshop has finally had many snacks that are made out of rice and have been praised by many.

Le Rei Workshop has a all-glass baking class room that provides a real time view of the baking process and at the same time submerges its visitors into natural while eating the fresh-made snacks. You can also visit the tour center to learn more about the characteristics of rice, rice species, and rice production process.

Breaking through the traditional thinking, Le Rei Workshop has not only turn rice into a wide variety of delicious food, but it has also increased the value of many agricultural products. Earlier this year, Le Rei successfully produces rice noodle and currently provides it to some primary and secondary schools lunches in the county; thus students can eat the most authentic rice products.

Le Rei Workshop is located at Jianguo Road of Tuku Township. On July 20th, it will be holding an opening event for the tour center. At the event, you will see a 150 cm ice cream model in front of the store, and you will be able to sample the rice ice cream for free and taste many products that are made out of rice. Disabled person will be able to enjoy all the hospitality for free.
