Miaoli Baishatun Gong Temples Matsu Pilgrimage at Beigang. Mayor Su Paid Visit.

Miaoli Baishatun Gong Temple Matsu arrived in Beigang on the 23rd. Mayor Su led previous appointed Mayor Li, and other officials on a pilgrimage welcoming the arrival of Temples Matsu. Crowds flooded the district and the bridge to await for Matsus appearance, while fireworks and drums were performed.
 
 
On the early morning of the 23rd in Xinshin District, dragon dance, lion dance and roaring fireworks welcomed the troupes and worshipers as they set off to Beigang. Mayor Su prayed about Taiwan and blessings for all the people as a response to welcome Matsu. After a short stop at the Beigang District police station, the troupes began marching to Chaotian Temple.
 
 
"Baishatun Matsu pilgrimage at Beigang Chaotian Temple has a long history. Regardless of age and gender, worshipers strolled about 400 kilometers without a designated route and rest stops. Such a marvelous endurance signifies the strong belief and unique cultural custom, and further attracts tourism.
 
Miaoli Tong Shiao district Baishatuns Matsu pilgrimage has an approximated 200 years history. Traveling 400km on foot without planned routes, the pilgrimage walk is a cultural symbol. In addition, flag, litter(Jaio), departure, offerings, return, opening, and other times are determined by cup hitting(Zhi Jiao), the longest custom and history maintained in the traditional Taiwanese incense offerings.
 
 
Baishatuns Matsu arrived at Beigangs Chaotian Temple at noon, the 23rd, departed on 5:30am, the 24th, and is expected to return to Gong Tian Temple at 2:35pm, the 31st.
