Citong Township Flora Festival grand open on January 15. The forty hectare landscape dedicated for the festival attracts thousands of visitors. Compliments were given by visitors as they impressed with the scenery. Some express the sea of flowers scenery was equally beautiful as the flora festival held at Xinshe Township, Taichung County. Director of Agriculture Mr. Lu ZhengZhang express his appreciation to the eighty plus farmer’s assistant and cooperation, together created the forty hectare of sea of flowers. While twenty hectare sea of flowers expected to reach full bloom during Chinese New Year, Magistrate Su welcome every citizen to pay a visit to Yunlin to experience rural culture and create unforgettable memory.
Serving as part of the plan to develop highlights for 2013 Agriculture Expo., Yunlin County government expanded the community development at flora festival project each year at Haisha Village, Citong Township. The project supporter town mayor Zhong MingXin and his team, local community development association and eighty farmers, together made the 40 hectares sea of flowers at Haisha Village a reality.
This year, besides the traditional sunflower and garden cosmos, the organizer arrange additional 20 hectares sea of flowers of pure red, pink, white garden cosmos planting areas. While the Chinese New Year is just around the corner, the flower will gradually reach full bloom. The Flora Festival at Haisha Village, Yunlin County welcome everyone to visit while enjoys the stunning, refreshing view.
During Japanese occupation of Taiwan, thanks to the quality irrigation water, fertile land, and hardworking farmer, the high quality rice produced in Haisha Village, Zitong Township, the five-hundred hectare paddy irrigation field was dedicated as “Tribute Rice” to the Emperor of Japan. In 1996 and for three consecutive years, rice grown in this region won the National Top 10 Rice award. In addition to this year’s Group Award winning was the result on farmer’s dedication to agricultural land, and willing to rehabilitate farmland. Planting sunflower and garden cosmos became the trend during farmland rehabilitation, and creates fascinating sea of flowers scenery. In 1997, this beautiful neighborhood created by the villager of Haisha was selected as one of the “Top Ten of National Landscape flowery field,” or sea of flower.
Haisha Village, also known as “home of flowery field, birth place of tribute rice,” is filling with humanity and culture, landscape, and nature resources, in addition to the villager’s strong sense of community autonomy. This year, the county government again cooperates with local community to create forty hectares sea of flower, which demonstrates the result of project expansion this year. The flora festival this year has greater scale, compare with festival held in Haisha Village, Taichung County, and hope to increase exposure to community highlights created for the agriculture expo, while creating leisure tourism boost, as well as promote tribute rice and local agriculture products.
