Yunlin County afforestation drive press conference

On May 3rd 11am, the Yunlin County Lunbei Township afforestation drive grand open ceremony started at the county government building lobby. Host by Deputy Magistrate Mr. Shi KeHe, an oath was taken to protect Yunlin’s nature habitat, and call on the local community to support this event.
 
Deputy Magistrate Shi point out, supported by the Hima Fundation and Melaleuca Company and its wealth experience in afforestation, wish to raise awareness to the locals and surrounding neighborhood. In addition, Deputy Magistrate wishes to boost this afforestation drive into a yearlong activity, cooperating with the private sectors and local community, together, enhance Yunlin’s future livelihood.
 
Deputy Magistrate said, windbreak planting protects landscape and design to enhance environmental scenery. In addition it helps to balance the impact on carbon footprint created by the pursuit of industrial and economic growth. Thanks to the help from the private sectors and NGO groups’ effort to cooperate with the government, act upon reducing air pollution and afforestation work, together pursuit an ecologically sustainable environment.
 
Mr. Liu ShuChong, General Manager of Melaleuca Taiwan Branch said, although he neither was born nor was raised in Yunlin, he traveled to every town and every corner of Yunlin when he was young. These trips created connection to the place and fall in love with it. The reason and motivation of choosing Yunlin County as the location of afforestation drive, is to create an opportunity to restore Jhuoshuei River, the mother river of Taiwan, to its former glory. The activity on May 6th was family oriented, and a chance for the members invite their family to act on the issue, while educate the young the important of protecting ecologically sustainable environment.
