Taiwan macaques have been adjusted from conservation to general wild animals since the announcement of the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan on January 9, 2019. They are still subject to Article 17 of the Wildlife Conservation Law. General wild animals cannot be hunted at will, unless it is based on academic research or Article 21 of the same law stipulates that arbitrarily hunting or slaughter is prohibited unless it endangers public safety or human lives, or endangers agricultural and forestry crops, poultry, livestock or aquaculture farmers. If the regulations are violated, a penalty of NT$60,000 to NT$300,000 would be imposed.
